SIT works with institutions to design custom programs that fit their curriculum, desired learning outcomes, and academic goals. We can design, support, and facilitate programs in a variety of models for various audiences, from undergraduate and graduate students to higher education faculty and professionals. Such programs include:

We prioritize custom program requests that seek an academic partnership in alignment with our values, in addition to logistical and student support. SIT takes a collaborative approach to custom program design and implementation:

Academic Support

  • Curriculum and program design, grounded in an experiential learning cycle
  • Field-based experiential learning opportunities
  • In-country SIT program staff, who lead SIT’s undergraduate and graduate programs
  • Networks of guest lecturers and local experts
  • Educational excursions
  • Language instruction at various levels
  • Unique cultural activities including opportunities for peer-to-peer engagement
  • Community-led internships and community-led reciprocity projects
  • Fieldwork projects and supporting instruction in research methods and ethics methodology
  • Debrief and discussion facilitation

Participant Support

  • 24-hour on-call support with professionals from the SIT’s Office of Student Health, Safety, and Well-being and mental health counselors
  • Pre-departure support for faculty/staff leaders and participants, including country-specific health and safety briefings
  • In-country orientation and end-of-program debriefs
  • Medical, evacuation, and quarantine insurance

Logistics Coordination

  • Housing and meal arrangements, including the option of homestays with SIT’s vetted network of trusted local families
  • Classroom space at SIT program centers and other venues
  • Local transportation
