Susana Batel, PhD
Susana Batel (she/her) is an integrated researcher at the Center for Psychological Research and Intervention at the University Institute of Lisbon and a visiting fellow in the Geography Department of the University of Exeter, UK. She has a PhD in social, environmental, and community psychology from the University Institute of Lisbon. Her research examines the relationship between people, the territory, and the climate crisis, with a focus on transformations to carbon neutrality, the right to the city, and associated socio-environmental justice and political participation issues. She is co-editor of Papers on Social Representations and associate editor of Frontiers in Environmental Psychology. She is the local coordinator of two Marie Curie Swlodowska Actions and the principal investigator of the exploratory project JUSTENERGY (Intersections of Rightwing Populism and (un)Just Rural Energy Transitions in Portugal), recently funded by the Portuguese National Science Foundation.
Catarina Roseta-Palma, PhD
Catarina Roseta-Palma holds a PhD in economics from Nova University School of Business and Economics. She is associate professor in the Economics Department and director of sustainability at University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE). Her main research interest is water management, but she has also published work on sustainable development, technological change, and climate adaptation. She has worked as a consultant for regional water boards, the Portuguese Environment Agency, the Environment Ministry, and the European Commission. In 2014, she served as a member of the Portuguese Commission for Green Tax Reform and she currently serves as a member of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists. She has been a visiting fellow at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and at Victoria University in New Zealand.
Daniela Craveiro, PhD
Daniela Craveiro, Iscte, PhD, holds a master’s degree in social psychology from the University of Coimbra and a doctorate in sociology from the University of Minho. She is currently a researcher at the Instituto de Ciências Sociais and teaches at ISEG – Institute of Economics and Management, University of Lisbon. Her research takes an interdisciplinary approach to exploring the impact of social context on health and well-being, to empowering individuals and communities in addressing the challenges of longevity and social sustainability.
Roberto Falanga, PhD
Roberto Falanga holds a master’s degree in dynamic and clinical psychology from the University La Sapienza in Rome and a PhD in democracy in the 21st Century from the University of Coimbra. He is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences, University of Lisbon, where his research is based on the analysis of participatory processes with multiple stakeholders in decision-making. He was co-principal investigator at the Institute of Social Sciences of the H2020-funded project ROCK—Regeneration and optimization of cultural heritage in creative and knowledge cities (2017-2020); and research team member of two EU-funded projects. At the Institute of Social Sciences, he is member of the Environment, Territory, and Society research group. Since 2020, he has worked with the Urban Planning and Participation Department at the Lisbon City Council on the design and monitoring of participatory strategies. He also coordinates several monitoring and evaluation plans for community-based projects in Lisbon.
Nuno Guiomar, PhD researcher in environmental sciences
Nuno Guiomar is a biophysical engineer, MSc in geographic information systems and science, and a PhD researcher in environmental sciences. He researches landscape modelling, landscape evaluation, fire management, landscape change and related drivers, and disturbance effects in Mediterranean agroforestry systems at multiple scales. Nuno was a founding partner of the Portuguese Association of Soil Bio-Engineering and the Portuguese Association of Landscape Ecology.
Carla Mouro, PhD
Carla Mouro’s research on the interface of social, environmental, and community psychology focuses on how individuals and communities receive and enable laws for sustainability, namely those regulating protected areas and biodiversity conservation. She is interested in citizen involvement in environmental issues, and representations and identities linked to social and environmental risks.
Pedro Pintassilgo, PhD
Pedro Pintassilgo holds a PhD in natural resources economics and works at the Faculty of Economics, University of Algarve, Portugal. He is a full member of the Center for Advanced Studies in Management and Economics. Pedro researchs bio-economics, environmental economics, and resource economics. His current projects are SCORE—Sustainability of using Ria Formosa currents on renewable energy production; and FARFISH—Responsive results-based management and capacity-building for EU sustainable fisheries.
Conceição Santos, PhD
Conceição Santos is deputy director of the Directorate General for Maritime Policy under the Portuguese Ministry of Sea in Portugal. Her work supports national ocean strategy, definition, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, including the Blue Economy Observatory. Since 2010, she has worked in the fields of marine policy, accountability, and statistics under the OSPAR Commission, OECD and the UN Agenda 2030.
João Wang, MSc, MBA
João Wang de Abreu is management controller at Smart Energy Lab, a collaborative laboratory focused on innovation and energy transition. He holds a master’s degree in environmental engineering, management, and environmental systems from Nova University of Lisbon and an MBA from Universidad Católica and Nova School of Business and Economics. He has more than nine years of experience in the consulting sector, and the public and energy sectors. He has also worked in the solar energy sector, at the European Commission, and with the Portuguese government.
