Overview

Based in Kunming, China, this three-week, intensive course will help you quickly develop and master your Chinese language skills. SIT will conduct placement tests to identify your language level at the start of the program. Taught by native language instructors who have completed ACTFL OPI training and have more than 12 years of experience teaching Chinese language to foreign students, this course will use oral proficiency-based methods and interactive language teaching techniques to help you build your speaking, comprehension, reading, and writing skills.  

While in-country you will participate in a language pledge to fully immerse yourself in the Chinese language and culture. Your formal language instruction will include opportunities to practice conversing with native speakers through on-campus activities with Chinese students, everyday community interactions, and site visits.

SIT is also offering a supplementary online Chinese Language course during the fall semester.

Program Sites

Kunming, China

Kunming is Yunnan Province’s largest city and its political, economic, and cultural center. It is called “the City of Eternal Spring” and is famous in China for its pleasant climate, green environment, and good air quality.  

The program center is located in the heart of Kunmingwithin a short walk of the beautiful Green Lake (Cui Hu). During the three-week program, you will receive 45 hours of Chinese language instruction, as well as one-on-one tutoring and training, two to three times a week. You will rapidly expand and improve your Chinese language skills through a combination of interactive classroom learning, cultural immersion on campus, and conversing with native speakers during everyday interactions, site visits, and other program activities.
